Professor Doris Sommer, Director of the Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard University, was one of the guest speakers at the 2016 International Academic Program (IAP-UAM-DRCLAS) Research Symposium, The Convergence of Education and Technology in the 21st Century, held at Harvard University in June 2016. Throughout the week-long symposium, participants from Latin America and Spain learned about and discussed new ways that technology is being used in education, and the ways in which these changes are affecting higher education.

In Professor Sommer’s sessions, participants learned about and experienced the Pre-Texts method, and thought about how it could be utilized in their own classrooms in their respective countries.

Operating in collaboration with the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the International Academic Program (IAP) of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) bring together professionals, professors and researchers from Latin America, Spain and other parts of the world, to exchange experiences and ideas. Through this academic initiative, IAP-UAM-DRCLAS creates opportunities for universities to keep their professors and researchers up to date in their respective fields. In addition to providing continuous formation, IAP-UAM-DRCLAS supports collaborative international research projects and Harvard-based-research and programs.

The IAP-UAM-DRCLAS symposia and workshops provide relevant, current, and innovative insights into diverse topics taught by leading world-class professors from Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Participants share knowledge, outline questions and formulate theories regarding the state of affairs in their areas of work, research, and teaching, always with a global emphasis and with the highest standards of excellence.
